We've just announced our partnership with HP. VDIworks VDP will now be providing full support for RGS enabled sessions. VDP will:

1) Automatically install RGS host components for you
2) Discover RGS enabled hosts and clients
3) Provide connection brokering for RGS
4) Provide sophisticated load balancing for RGS, including configurable CPU/Memory weights to deal with specific application loads and user types.
5) Allow you to switch to RDP when your connection doesn't support the kind of bandwidth RGS needs
6) Provide inventory and asset management for RGS hosts
7) Provide out-of-band remote control of RGS hosts and clients for debugging/help desk activity
8) Deliver logging, reporting, alerts, SNMP, IPMI, AMT and a whole host of other functionality to RGS hosts and clients

Bottom line: if you are an RGS user already, or are looking to deliver high end graphical experiences with VDI, this new solution will fit the bill. Give us a call and we'll be happy to drive you through a demo.

We're actively looking at this, jamest. In fact we're currently having conversations with some popular Linux distro vendors with exactly this thought in mind. We'll keep you posted.

VDIworks2Go for Laptops was just announced...

November 24, 2008 by amirhusain

We just announced that we'll be releasing an exciting new product, VDIworks2Go, before the end of the year. With VDIworks2Go, laptop and other mobile users will be able to check out virtual machines when they're on the go, while retaining the ability to use resources in the datacenter when they do have access to a network. It really combines the best of both worlds!

Here's some coverage on CBS Marketwatch: http://www.marketwatch.com/news/story/VDIworks2Go-Manages-Virtual-Desktops-Mobile/story.aspx?guid={F6BE1368-CE84-4DD2-AA4E-FB5B56B3C858}

Installing VDIworks thinclient agent on a stock Linux distro

November 20, 2008 by amirhusain

We currently deliver the VDP Thinclient agent for Linux as an ezRM package for HP/Neoware devices, and as an update package delivered through the VDP Console. We've had some questions around support for various Linux distros where ezRM would not be supported, or that don't already have a VDP install. We're going to come out with an RPM and .tgz packages for the Linux client, but until then, please let us know if you need help with this. If you get in touch with us we can provide you with an un-released .tgz and a HOWTO.

Parallels anyone?

November 20, 2008 by amirhusain

The VDIworks product currently supports Xen, VMware ESX, VMware Server, Microsoft Virtual Server and Microsoft Hyper-V... we haven't seen much in the way of customers requesting Parallels support. Anyone out there trying to get our VDP product to run with Parallels? Should we be looking at this at all?

Redlands wins the Infoworld 100 award for their VDIworks Virtual Desktop implementation

November 20, 2008 by amirhusain

We’ve been working with the wonderful folks over at Redlands Community Hospital for over a year now. When we initially met with them to chat about their vision for the future of IT at their hospital, we knew their plans were both exciting and cutting edge. Just the kind of project we like to be involved in! After the initial exchange of ideas, it was very clear that this was a wonderful fit; Richard Gagnon and his team possessed both the vision and a deep understanding of business specific issues their IT infrastructure had to contend with. And we had the Virtual Desktop technology that would allow Redlands to implement their next generation IT infrastructure. Fast-forward a year and Redlands’ innovation with the VDIworks Virtual Desktop Platform* has won them an Infoworld 100 award for being a “shining example of [an] IT project undertaken by tech leaders committed to pushing their organization forward”. We couldn’t agree more!
